Welcome to our School

Hello and a very warm welcome!

To the Tarradale Primary School and ELC website

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re either a parent of a bright young mind in our school or a prospective parent in our wonderful, local community. In either case, we’re thrilled to have you here and hope this digital hub paints an accurate picture of what we, as a school and community, are all about.

I am Tracy Sinclair, the proud Head Teacher of Tarradale, and I’m excited to guide you through our educational journey. Situated at the heart of the picturesque village of Muir of Ord, Tarradale Primary and ELC is a treasure trove of resources. We’ve got it all, from a golf club to a skate park, a bowling club, a football association, an athletics field, a curling pond, and even a mountain biking track. We’re committed to ensuring our young learners not only have access to these amenities but are also actively engaged with their broader community, spanning generations.

As a school we strive to be an inclusive and indispensable part of our community, and this website is your digital gateway to all things Tarradale. However, no matter how persuasive our words are here, they can’t capture the true essence of the caring, purposeful, and inclusive atmosphere our incredible team has cultivated. To truly grasp the ethos, you’ll have to step inside our doors and experience it for yourself.

School Uniform

To the Tarradale Primary School and ELC website

At Tarradale, we are a family.  We look out for one another, sharing our successes and achievements, and support each other.  We take pride in our school uniform and all pupils are expected to wear this.  However, we do understand that there are mornings where the jumpers are in the wash! No child is ever penalised in any way for not wearing uniform, however we do find that uniform makes us all feel part of the family and it certainly helps with our behaviour within the school and community.

So, our basic expectations include a blue sweatshirt or hoodie with our school badge, plain grey or black trousers or skirts (jeans are a no-go), a white shirt, blouse, or school polo shirt (no football jerseys, please), and comfortable, well- fitting shoes.  High heels, platform soles and shoes with little support (strappy sandals) are not permitted.

We have also added jackets, fleeces, school bags, and more to the uniform lineup. A small selection is kept in school or we can order for you.  Just pop into the office.

Breakfast Club

For the early birds, we have a ‘Breakfast Club’ that’s open to children from P1-7 all year-round. No need for booking; just bring your child along any day. It’s currently £2 per day, and the spread includes cereal, toast with an array of spreads and jams, and some refreshing fruit juice. We even take requests from the little ones! The Breakfast Club runs from 8:00 am to 8:45 am in our school canteen, and the playground gates open at 8 am. After breakfast, the children can head out to the playground or stay indoors with our friendly PSA staff.

Break Time

Our break times run from 10.45am until 11.00am.  Children can bring snacks, but we’re all about promoting health, so no sweets, please.  The school tuck shop, operated by our School Canteen, sells toast, fruit, and other healthy snacks along with bottles of water and milk. Prices range up to 50p.

Staying hydrated is key, and children can keep a water bottle with them throughout the day. Fizzy drinks are not allowed in school at any time. Due to very severe allergies, we would kindly ask you to work with us in not providing anything which has nuts.

Lunchtimes

Lunchtime arrangements are organised by school stage. We have 3 separate sittings, starting with the younger ones first.  We start our first sitting at 12.00, followed by 12.30pm and 1.00pm.  All children currently have one hour for their lunch and time for play. Most children stay for school lunch or bring a packed lunch, but if parents want their child to head home, just drop us a note or give us a call so we can make the arrangements. When pupils go home for lunch, they’re in the care of their parents during the break.

School lunches are currently free for all children from Nursery to Primary 5.  For P6 and 7, school meals are £2.30 and are paid online.   Our school cook, Gloria, is more than happy to accommodate any dietary requirements your child might have, so feel free to reach out for a chat. Help with free meals, can found on the Highland Council website. We serve up nutritious meals prepared on-site, and menus provided by Highland Council promote a healthy lifestyle.  Every effort is made to accommodate any child who, for medical reasons requires a special diet.

Both breaks and lunchtimes are supervised from members of our team. Your child’s health and well-being are our top priorities, and we can’t wait to have them join our vibrant community.
